Louisiana is near the top of yet another bad list. We have the third highest poverty rate in the United States. AP reports, recently released census data lists the bayou state's 2015 poverty rate at 19.6%. Only New Mexico (20.4%), and Mississippi (22%) were worse off. The figure represents a nearly negligible drop from the 2014 figure of 19.8%. Poverty level for a family of four is defined as an annual household income of less than $24,000. Louisiana, ironically, is home to nearly 80,000 millionaires.
