It is totally unprecedented. That could be said about the incredible flooding that still has many residents of South Carolina in shelters and away from their homes.

You could also say that it is unprecedented that  LSU's Golden Band from Tigerland would dare to play another universities fight song.

I am very proud to say that will happen Saturday in Tiger Stadium with LSU and South Carolina meet in a game that originally scheduled for South Carolina's home field.

Director of Bands for LSU Roy King says he knows the LSU Band can do the USC fight song justice.

It’s very similar to other music that we play but every school has its own way of playing their own fight song. We’re listening to their recording and we’re trying to play it as well as they play it.

The LSU Band will also perform the South Carolina alma mater "We Hail Thee Carolina" as part of the pregame show. King told the Louisiana Radio Network that members of his band felt this gesture was appropriate and the right thing to do under the circumstances.

I’m so proud of my students here at LSU and their willingness to be here to support all our fans and in this case all the South Carolina fans, as well.

To me that will be a goose bump moment when the Tiger Band honors our neighbors from South Carolina. The people of the Palmetto State were there for us during Hurricanes Rita, Katrina, and countless other natural calamities. It is an honor for us and those students who represent us in the LSU Band to offer this gesture of respect and sportsmanship.

LSU will face South Carolina Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm. The game will be televised on ESPN.
