LSU To Sponsor Gay ‘Lavender Graduation’ Ceremony

Members and friends of the Louisiana State University (LSU) LGBTQA community will have the opportunity to attend the Lavender Graduation ceremony. The ceremony will include live music from a local band, keynote speakers, and a post-ceremony reception.

In an interview with CampusReform.org, Chad Freeman, a grad assistant in the Office of Multicultural Affairs who helped coordinate the ceremony, stated that public funds would be used to pay for the ceremony.

According to Freeman, the LGBT Lavender Graduation ceremony will join the roving African American graduation ceremony as the only two cultural graduation ceremonies on campus.

The Lavender Graduation ceremony is being co-presented by the LSU Office of Multicultural Affairs and Spectrum, a campus LGBT advocate group. The ceremony hopes to celebrate the growth of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and Allied/Asexual community at LSU.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place May 14, 2013 in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom in the school's student union.
