On Sunday, crews from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development shifted traffic for motorists who used U.S. Highway 90 westbound in the Broussard area.

The shift has moved the traffic to the new U.S. 90 westbound frontage road as of yesterday. The change is needed so they can build an overpass in that area as part of the Geaux South program to widen Highway 90 to six-lanes between Albertson's Parkway to north of the Ambassador Caffery intersection.

A new traffic signal has been installed, and it means changes from the travel you are used to in that area.

The new detours by DOTD are as follows:

The suggested detour will begin approximately 1000 ft. north of the Billeaud Overpass.
Now that things are shifted, traffic will continue on the new westbound frontage road until they reach the St. Nazaire intersection. Once there, motorists will be able to turn right onto St. Nazaire, continue straight onto the new frontage road.
Traffic continuing on the westbound frontage road will be shifted back to existing U.S. 90 westbound highway.

Look for new striping on the roadway to help you understand where you are to go, but basically you will get off of Highway 90, use the frontage road, then get back on 90 past the Albertson's Parkway area.

DOTD asks you to be cautious and obey all signs in the area, and be on the lookout for their crews.
