When Concord, New Hampshire's first baby of 2017 was born, his father lost his job. Lamar Austin was fired from his part time job as a security guard after skipping work to attend the birth of his son, Cainan. The Concord Monitor reports, Austin, a military veteran, was hired on a 90 day trial basis by Salerno Protective Services. His New Year's Eve absence was only a month into his probationary period, and they let him go. He was terminated via text at 1am New Year's morning. The company declined comment. Austin has since received at least three job offers. A gofundme has raised $10,000 for the family.

“Sometimes you lose something and you get something even better.”   - Lamar Austin

I guess that says it all. Congratulations, and Happy New Year!
