Martin Lawrence became one of the most influential actors of the 1990s through his classic sitcom, Martin, and hit movies like Bad Boys (with Will Smith), Boomerang, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and many others. Later this month, the veteran actor will be saluted at the 2017 VH1’s Hip-Hop Honors: The 90’s Game Changers.

“Anytime anyone wants to recognize you for your work, it’s an honor. I am looking forward to a really great night of fun and music,” said Lawrence in a press release (via Billboard).

This is a great honor for Marty-Mar considering that his groundbreaking sitcom Martin is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The 52-year-old comedian recently thanked his fans for still supporting his series, which still airs in syndication.

In addition to Lawrence, Missy Elliott, who was honored at last year’s event, will kick off the star-studded affair with a special performance dedicated to the ‘90s. There also will be plenty of laughs on the show with actress Regina Hall onboard to host the festivities.

VH1’s Hip-Hop Honors: The 90’s Game Changers will air on Sept. 18 at 9PM ET on VH1.
