Meek Mill Didn't Know Jay-Z Would Address Kanye West on New Song

Meek Mill is pulling double duty as he hits the road promoting his new Championships album and advocates for prison reform at the same time. Of course, the talk of the weekend has been the new track "What's Free" featuring Jay-Z and Rick Ross, where Jigga addresses Kanye West and President Trump. According to Meek, he was unaware what Hov would be diving into on the trending new track.

The Dreamchasers head honcho sat down for an interview on Michael Smerconish's show on CNN, published on Saturday (Dec. 1). Even Smerconish couldn't help but bring up the song where Jay raps, "No red hat, don't Michael and Prince me and 'Ye/They separate you when you got Michael and Prince's DNA/I ain't one of these house niggas you bought/My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours/My spou- C'mon man/My route better of course."

Meek revealed he had no idea what Hov would be rhyming about when he received the verse as they didn't speak on the subject matter beforehand.

"I didn't talk to him about it. [When I heard it], I was just like, 'Yo!,'" Meek confirmed. "I had dreams my whole life of having a Jay-Z verse, being able to rap with Jay-Z, who I view as the greatest off all time. So, you know, whatever he did I was just gonna accept it and that's he gave me. That's what he delivered to me and I was happy with that."

Hov has since said the verse is not a Kanye diss, and Meek agreed. "I don't think he really goes after Kanye," Meek said. "I think he really says, like, don't let them separate us like they did Michael Jackson and Prince, basically. Kanye came out of nowhere and just went red hat, and that was kind of against everything we represent."

He added, "I don't know what [Kanye] represents. But coming up in the hip-hop community, we came up fighting, and fighting for our rights for a long time, and what that red hat represents don't really represent what we've been fighting for our whole lives."
