The home of the New Orleans Saints and the site of the 2013 Super Bowl just got a new name. The Superdome has always been an iconic part of New Orleans and in 2005 was a symbol of agony during Hurricane Katrina. "Da Dome" as it's commonly referred to by locals will now have a new prestige now that the naming rights have been purchased by of the top luxury brands in the world.

Mercedes-Benz USA has announced that it will have official naming rights for the Superdome through the next 10 years. Saints owner Tom Benson, who owns Mercedes dealerships in New Orleans and San Antonio claims

the new name will show everyone that the Big Easy isn't just a "sleepy little town...That hurricane woke everyone up." Benson credits his wife with broaching the idea of enticing Mercedes into buying naming rights for the stadium in a meeting with Mercedes' U.S. officials in Germany last April. "It worked out great for everyone," he says.

Mercedes sees this as a chance to make the Superdome "an icon for rebirth" as the name change caps the end of $336 million in renovations to the dome. The name change to The Mercedes-Benz Superdome will take affect on Oct. 23 when the Saints face the Indianapolis Colts in a rematch of Superbowl XLIV on NBC's Sunday Night Football.

For more details on the deal, check out USAToday's article, and in the meantime, I'm going to order a monocle to wear at the next Saints game in my new prestigious Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Swag.
