In what is arguably the most concrete development in the search to date, Lafayette Police are confirming that a bike found under the Whiskey Bay exit off I-10 this morning is the same bike that Mickey Shunick was riding when she was last seen in the early morning hours of May 19. The Lafayette Police Department arrived on the scene in response to a tip called in from fisherman and are continuing to investigate the area.

"The entire area and the river are being searched for clues and evidence," said Lafayette Police Department PIO Cpl. Paul Mouton in an email Sunday afternoon. "Police are asking the public to remain out of the area so that law enforcement officials can search."

Mouton also said that the Shunick family has confirmed the found bicycle belongs to Mickey.

Currently, ATVs are being used by members of the St. Martin Parish Narcotics Unit to scour the treeline and the woods surrounding the area where the bike was found. State Police are using a low-flying helicopter to perform a thorough aerial search of the area. Again, per the authorities, please remain out of the Whiskey Bay area at Exit 127 so that officials can search uninterrupted.

This is the latest confirmed information, and as far as we know, police are still interested in identifying multiple vehicles that were in the area where Mickey Shunick was last seen. All tips and information should be reported to 337-291-8633.
