We love our holidays here in Louisiana, and Thanksgiving is no exception. You can feel the holiday spirit in the air every time you walk into a grocery store in Acadiana, and we spend weeks getting just the right ingredients for our feast. The smell of roasting meats and side dishes being prepared in our specialty meat stores is so heavenly!

But sometimes you need some help recreating that perfect Thanksgiving meal! Maybe you forgot to write down that potato recipe that you couldn't get enough of when you were a child, or just how exactly do you make a fried turkey? That's where Google comes in. ( I literally just had to google my favorite praline recipe that was lost, and I was so so happy I could find it on the internet.)

Wide Open Country has compiled a list of the most popular Thanksgiving recipes googled in every Southern State, (because we all know the south has the best food). I'm kind of surprised at some of them, but what the heck do I know!

Below is a sample, but you can see the most popular items here. Happy eating, y'all, and remember, it's never too early to start thinking about the next holiday!

  • Alabama - Sweet Potato Dumplings
  • Florida - Fla de Calabaza
  • Georgia - Key Lime Cake
  • Louisiana - Mirliton Casserole
  • Kentucky - Chess Bars
  • Texas and Oklahoma - Soapapilla Cheesecake
  • South Carolina - Pineapple Casserole
  • North Carolina - Pig Pickin' Cake

They all sound delicious - now where is my recipe for mirliton casserole??
