A mother is speaking outafter a photo of her two-year-old baby was at the center of a ridiculed meme gone viral.

Mariah Anderson was born with a rare condition called Chromosome Two Duplication Syndrome, and has been fighting for her lifesince day one. Now Mariah and her family are fighting another disease—internet hecklers.

Mariah's mother, Kyra, posted a photo of her daughterto social media to celebrate her birthday and it was shared by thousands—but for all the wrong reasons.

Facebook users used the photo to poke fun at Mariah's appearance, making hurtful memes that broke her mother's heart.

The smile that you guys think is funny or the smile that you guys are comparing to a leprechaun.. the things you guys are saying about my child, she's not a monster, she's real.

Mariah's grandmother also reacted to the horrible things saidabout her granddaughter, reminding people that she "is actually a human being."

Mariah's father isn't bothered by what people are saying about his daughter, but rather his family who has been affected by this whole situation.

The joke will soon go away, but the truth is Mariah's life expectancy doesn't look too good and her family is cherishing every day they are able to have with her. One bright spot in this whole situation is a video made for Mariah, and sent to her mother who was lifted by the tribute to her daughter and her story.

The lesson here is just don't be mean—in real life, or the on the internet.
