The 2016 lineup for Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival has been announced and this year, the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens will unite. Nas and Fabolous have been announced as co-headliners for the midsummer festival.

First started in 2005 by the Brooklyn Bodega Inc., the annual festival will take over the grounds of Brooklyn Bridge Park overlooking the scenic East River of Manhattan from July 13 to the 16, 2016. Other MCs announced on the 12th annual lineup include Brooklyn's Talib Kweli, Rapsody and DJ Rob Swift. The shows will be hosted by Torae.

With so many fallen soldiers in the hip-hop community since last year's fest (Phife Dawg, Bankroll Fresh and DJ Big Kap just to name a few), fans online are already anticipating a tribute section of the headlining set. And of course, with New York being the birthplace of the genre, there's no telling who might stop by. Past surprise guests at the BK Fest include Jay-Z in 2014 and Kanye West and Busta Rhymes in 2011.

BK Hip Hop Fests adds to the growing list of summer festivals announcing their lineups. Just last month, Essence Festival announced Kendrick Lamar as their headliner and the U.K.'s Wireless Festival secured a monster hip-hop lineup of Future, J. Cole and Young Thug. In New York alone, the festival calendar is getting more crowded than ever. The Governor's Ball is having 'Ye as their headliner this year, and the producers of California's Coachella are introducing Panorama Festival to New York for the first time this year with Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky and Run The Jewels on the inaugural lineup.

So, whether fans will be taking the Queensbridge or the Brooklyn Bridge to get up to Pier 5 of Brooklyn Bridge Park, this year's BK Hip Hop Fest aims to please a variety of fans. Tickets for the festival go on sale soon.
