The National Safety Council is inviting all drivers to join them in the first Great National Cell Off Day on Wednesday, June 29th, by turning their cell phones off while on the road. According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimate, 11% of all drivers are using cell phones at any given time while on the road. Cell phones, like any distraction, increase the risk of accidents, putting lives of the driver, passengers and others at risk. More than 2.2 million injuries resulted from vehicle crashes in 2008, not to mention thousands of fatalities.
