New Iberia residents are speaking out after a drive-by-shooting off S. Hopkins St. sent one man to the hospital.

KATC's Breanna Molloy was in New Iberia after a 39-year-old man was reportedly shot by someone in a passing vehicle while walking down S. Hopkins St. on Tuesday (9/20).

Many residents in the area declined to speak on camera with KATC out of fear they would be labeled as a snitch—or even worse, retaliation.

One man agreed to speak, provided he would be allowed to wear glasses and a hat to protect his identity. Another woman, Almetine Edmond, had NO problem speaking up about the violence plagueing her neighborhood streets.

I heard pow, pow. I wasn’t sure what it was. I thought it was some firecrackers.

Edmond did speak about the changes she would like see, but didn't have any solid information on the drive-by-shooting incident. Regardless, she just wants to see the community working hand in hand, helping one another.

She is also going viral for her warning about New Iberia that is also a reference to a popular Yo Gotti song. See if you can figure it out what she means in the video above.

If you have information about this shooting, detectives ask that you call the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-369-3711.
