Two weeks ago, the Sacramento Kings publicly said they would never trade DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins. Sunday night, they traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans, according to multiple reports.

Rumors of a Cousins trade to New Orleans were non-existent 24 hours ago. It began to swirl Sunday afternoon, ending with an agreed upon deal between the Sacramento Kings and Pelicans.

Cousins and forward Omri Casspi go to New Orleans in exchange for rookie Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway, Tyreke Evans, the Pelicans 2017 first round pick (top 3 protected) and second round pick (from Philadelphia).

Cousins, a 3-time All-Star, joins superstar Anthony Davis, a 4-time All-Star and 2017 NBA All-Star game MVP.

The duo of Kentucky alums are the only two players to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game the last 2 seasons.

John Goodman of ESPN spoke to Davis shortly after the trade was made public.

When asked how his All-Star weekend was, a smiling Davis told Goodman, "All-Star game MVP. We got Boogie Cousins. It doesn't get any better than this."

The Pelicans (23-34), two and a half games back of 8th place in the Western Conference, will attempt to keep Cousins long-term.

His current contract ends after the 2017-18 season. His agent has stated publicly in recent weeks Cousins would not sign an extension with a new team if he was traded. If this holds true, New Orleans would only be able to resign him once he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2018.

Cousins, the 5th overall pick of the 2010 draft, has never experienced a winning season in Sacramento. With multiple head coaches and GMs, since his rookie season, Cousins is the NBA leader in technical fouls (105), fouling out (46) and ejections (12).

He's averaging 27.8 PPG and 10.6 RPG this season.
