There has been an outpouring of support for Kehlani following news that the singer attempted to take her own life earlier this week. Among the artists and celebrities reaching out to her is Nick Cannon, someone who Kehlani had previously referred to as a "father figure" in her life.

Cannon posted the above photo of himself with the singer to Instagram on Wednesday (March 30), captioning it with "Had to go grab my Youngen!" In a May 2015 interview with Billboard, Kehlani detailed the role Cannon played in her life and career, crediting the jack of all trades performer for providing her with shelter and a safe place to work.

"Before Nick Cannon, I was homeless," she said at the time. "I was just in Oakland, I had one song out, and I had never really written too much before. He came from a standpoint of someone I had met a long time ago on America’s Got Talent. He saw my potential back then and he waited around to see what I grew into, and he saw a young girl who needed some help in the area where no one should really be struggling. Simple things like having a place to lay my head and having a safe place to write music. He really gave me that. He gave me a place to rest my head. As a young woman not having a father figure or any type of supportive male role in your life, that’s what he gave to me. He was kind of like a father figure."

Kehlani has been at the center of rampant rumors regarding her dating life after PartyNextDoor posted a photo of the two in bed together earlier this week. While many believed Kehlani was cheating on Kyrie Irving in the photo, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard just recently clarified that the two were no longer an item at the time. In the above photo, Kehlani looks to be in better spirits with Cannon by her side.
