This summer, Nicki Minaj will hit the road for her Pink Friday tour. This will be her first headlining trek since opening for Lil Wayne and Britney Spears on their respective tours last year. With Minaj, you can always count on her bringing her unique brand of showmanship to the stage.

Helping her create a worthwhile production for the tour is Minaj’s right-hand vixen, creative director and choreographer Laurieann Gibson. The industry veteran has choreographed for such artists as Lady Gaga and Missy Elliott — and even recently released her own single! She was also responsible for Minaj’s interesting Grammy performance back in February.

Gibson is thrilled to be working with Minaj again who she feels is a “breath of fresh air” in hip-hop. “Musically, to get back to the rap game, to see a female emcee dominate the pop charts, this, historically, for me, I feel a bit of responsibility,” she tells MTV News. “When I got back to Nicki, I was so happy to be in that soulful music again, in that fight, in the idea that rap is not dead and that somebody like her can be many things in many genres and not be limited.”

Although Minaj will be performing in smaller venues for her first outing, Gibson promises that fans won’t be disappointed in the production value of the show. “I love [when] I heard ‘Roman Reloaded.’ I loved her delivery. I love the way she flows,” she says. “So the Pink Friday Tour is really good and it’s kind of like a glimpse back to what a real rap show is. It’s intimate but big at the same time.”
