IBN, along with numerous other sources are reporting that Nnamdi Asomugha has reached an agreement with the New Orleans Saints in "principle." Asomugha was once regarded as the top cornerback in the game, and being recently cut from the Eagles made him one of - if not the top free agent cornerback in the NFL.

The Saints are coming off the worst defensive performance in NFL history, so merely reaching a deal with Asomugha would be an improvement. This would put the former Eagles CB in the same defensive backfield as former Pittsburgh Steeler Keenan Lewis, recently signed by the Saints. In addition, this will also reunite Nnamdi with Rob Ryan from his star cornerback days in Oakland.

Earlier this afternoon at the NFL owners meetings New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said that he thinks that Asomugha can still play at a high level.

It happens all the time in our business where a player has success and then maybe goes through a period of time where he doesn't. He had company in Philadelphia in regards to the struggles they had, and for two years we didn't see the same player we saw in Oakland for so many years. But that happens all the time. I think for us, you look at the body of work and look at what motivates the player and what he's excited about.

Payton also went on to say that Asomugha had a good visit with the team and is weighing his options after visiting San Francisco and New Orleans after being dropped by Philadelphia last week.

For what it's worth - Nnamdi was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, so he'll be closer to his birthplace, lol. Still waiting on confirmation, and final financial details. We have faith in The Loomis. (story developing)
