State officials have announced that there will be no hurricane preparedness sales tax holiday this year.

In a written release, the Louisiana Department of Revenue stated:

"The annual sales tax exemption known as the Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is not among the exemptions and exclusions considered operative and in effect for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016,"

This tax exemption holiday traditionally happened on the last weekend of May, but that will not take place in 2016. Items such as generators, flashlights, batteries, and other hurricane necessities were exempt from the state sales tax.

Perhaps this is a sign of the state's current financial situation, and its not good. In any case, do not let this stop you from preparing for the upcoming 2016 Hurricane Season.

As always, its better to prepared---than not.
