Organizations Offer Prayer, Meditation, Vigils Following Theater Shooting
The Rev. Michael Russo has offered the front of the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for people to leave flowers, letters and messages of tribute for the victims and families affected by the Grand 16 Theater shooting.
The church has been deemed a better place for tribute items than the theater because law enforcement crews are still investigating the crime scene which will limit public access to the theater.
Fatima School Principal Joni Duos and Rev. Russo released the following statement via a letter to the Fatima School community.
"A special memorial spot will be set up at the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue in front of Fatima Church. You are invited to bring flowers and memorials on behalf of the victims, as Fatima Church is nearest the crime scene. City officials will help to monitor traffic flow. Please park in the parking lot and walk over to the Sacred Heart statue. Let Fatima’s heart be shown to the world!"
There is also the Fatima family grief support staff which is manning the pavilion to support mourners in the expression of their grief.
Students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette are hosting a candlelight vigil in the wake of Thursday's movie theatre shooting. It will be held Friday, July 24, from 8:30-10:00 p.m. at UL Lafayette's Quadrangle.
