A group wants LSU to no longer house a live mascot on campus.

According to the Advocate, a California-based social media operation with 40 million members, Care2 wants LSU to no longer house a live tiger on campus.

The group feels that live animals should not be part of the entertainment on gameday. We should note here that "Mike VII" lives in a million dollar habitat on the campus of LSU and is under the care of the LSU Veterinary School.

When Mike VI died of cancer, this same group petitioned for the university to not get another live tiger, but LSU did. The University rescued this Bengal tiger from a facility in Florida in 2017, and since then the former home of "Mike" has been cited for a number of violations.

The Advocate reports that only a handful of the signatures on this petition are from Louisiana. Most that have signed this petition are from out of state or not from the United States.

Mike VII has been on the campus of LSU since August 2017. Will you sign this petition or do you think Mike VII is in good hands at LSU?

As of reporting this story, over 49,000 people have signed this petition, which LSU will reportedly not address.
