Police say that 12 people are dead and more than 59 people were wounded after an individual stormed into a "Batman" premiere in a Colorado theater and opened fire. The violent and chaotic scene erupted about 12:30 a.m. MDT as a gunman stood at the front of one of the Century 16 theaters at the Aurora Mall where the latest Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" was playing.According to police, the gunman released some sort of gas from a canister and then opened fire on the innocent bystanders.

 

 

Police were able to locate the suspect near a car behind the theater and they recovered a number of items. Police say, "A gas mask, rifle, handgun at least one additional weapon (were) found inside."

The suspect was taken into custody, but no name has been released. Police say that there's no evidence of any other attackers. There was also no immediate word of any motive. However, according to police the attacker may have mentioned something about more "possible explosives in his residence."

The city where this tragedy happened is about 10 miles away from Denver.
