The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of yet another one of their own. Indie rapper Pumpkinhead has passed away at the age of 39.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native was apparently found dead early Tuesday morning (June 9) at 5:40 a.m. The news quickly spread throughout social media with Canadian producer Marco Polo, a friend of the rhymer, revealing the time of his death on Twitter. The Orange Moon Over Brooklyn creator's cause of death is not currently known.

Pumpkinhead, born Robert Diaz, became a rising star in the New York battle rap circuit and was praised for his 1997 track "Dynamic." Aside from four albums he released including The Old Testament in 2001, he embraced collaborative efforts with Immortal Technique in the 2000s. His appearances on Technique's albums like Revolutionary 1 and Revolutionary 2 earned him respect as a promising artist with boatloads of potential. He also appeared on Jean Grae's The Bootleg of the Bootleg EP on the song "Code Red."

Despite being a heralded underground MC, Pumpkinhead never cracked the mainstream. Still, artists and fans alike adored his mic presence and showed love whenever he performed.

A bevy of artists including Immortal Technique, Talib Kweli, Brother Ali, Jedi Mind Tricks and more all paid their respects on social media after hearing about his untimely demise. Pumpkinhead is survived by his wife and two sons in addition to a baby girl on the way, Billboard reports.
