Put A Jacket In The Car, Colder Weather Arriving This Afternoon

It's that "parent of the year" feeling you get when you pull up to the carpool line and see your little one shivering in short pants and a short sleeve t-shirt all because you didn't pay attention to the weatherman.

Today could be one of those days a strong cold front is now expected to push through the Acadiana area between 11 AM and 2 PM. During that time it will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area. After the heavier storms move on through the winds will pick up from the north and the temperatures will begin to fall.

In addition to the falling raindrops and falling temperatures, the winds will be howling in from the northwest between 15 and 20 mph. That will make it feel even colder. Temperatures could be in the upper 50's by suppertime tonight.

You should start your Wednesday with a temperature in the low 40-degree range. The winds will lay down a little but there will be enough of a breeze for you to feel a bit more of a chill. There will still be a significant threat of showers in the area too.

By Friday skies should be clear and the weekend will be nice but quite chilly. The Sunday morning low temperature could be right at the freezing mark or below across many of the Acadiana parishes along and north of I-10.

The below average cold won't last too long as temperatures will creep up to more seasonable averages by the middle of next week.
