An MRI on Montrel Carter’s knee confirms the worst.

In a recent interview with the Advertiser, Louisiana Head Coach Mark Hudspeth revealed the redshirt freshman tore two ligaments in his left knee during the game against Lamar on Saturday. The running back will be out for the rest of the season.

Hudspeth said the surgery will likely be done next week.

Carter has three years of eligibility remaining, and can apply for a medical waiver to get an additional fourth year from the NCAA.

The Cajuns still have quality running backs on the depth chart in Alonzo Harris and Effrem Reed.

When asked if this is going to affect the Cajun’s season, ESPN 1420‘s Steve Peloquin said,

I think it’s going to affect the Cajuns depth wise, but Harris and Reed are going to pick up the slack… I’m not worried about the season.”
