**UPDATE - Thanks to Facebook TimeHop, this story appeared and has been spreading. Just wanted to make you aware, and that Anais is currently in her second round of treatment.**

A local teacher is making a desperate plea on behalf of a former student. Dana Griffin Nugent of Rayne Catholic Elementary School says 16-year-old Anais Alleman needs our help.

The teen was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and desperately needs a bone marrow transplant to save her life.

Alleman has been described by Nugent as a "fun-loving, smart, kind and just beautiful girl."

Adopted from Vietnam by a local family, Anais' ethnicity makes finding a donor extremely difficult. This is where you can help.

Nugent is asking everyone to share this story as much as possible, in hopes that it reaches the right person.

She's also reached out to Ellen DeGeneres in hopes of raising awareness and potentially finding a match.

"We are desperately trying to reach out to those of Asian descent to please register at the bone marrow registry so that this family may find that one special person that could possibly save Anais," Nugent write on her Facebook page. "This hard-working family needs support in every way and our school and community is desperate to find her as much help as possible."

If you'd like to help the family with medical expenses, you can do so at the following Go Fund Me page: www.gofundme.com/AnaisAlleman.

Personally, I highly recommend everyone to register yourself with the folks at Be The Match, the National Marrow Donor Program.

I have been on the registry since 2009 and just last year I was contacted as a potential match. Although I didn't eventually donate because the person I was a match for no longer needed a transplant, I can tell you this was one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done.
