New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson is hoping the final game of his NFL career will be two weeks from Sunday, not last week in the divisional playoff round against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to ESPN NFL Nation reporter Kat Terrell, Watson is suffering from appendicitis, and will be inactive this Sunday in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Watson, a 15 year NFL veteran, announced last month he would retire at the end of this season. He's a player Drew Brees trusts, and while tight end Josh Hill played more snaps than Watson last week, he'll certainly be missed on Sunday.

He's officially been listed as DNP (did not participate) on the injury report this week due to an illness.

Per Terrell, Watson has been able to avoid surgery to this point for the appendicitis, and was at practice today.

If the Saints win Sunday, the chances of Watson playing in Super Bowl XLIII are high.
