We're getting down to those final precious days of the long summer vacation at the beach. With school starting in a matter of days across many Louisiana parishes many families are trying to squeeze in one last day or two in the sun and sand.

While that might sound relaxing, over the next several days it could be quite dangerous. the National Weather Service has posted a Rip Current Risk Advisory for the beaches from Mobile Bay eastward toward Destin Florida.

A rip current is believed to be the reason a Mississippi woman lost her life on Wednesday while swimming off Okaloosa Island Florida on Wednesday. The rip current advisory is in effect through Friday (August 3) and might be continued into the weekend.

Here's how you can recognize a rip current, even if there are no warning flags flying.

Forecasters do believe the rip current risk will moderate over the next several days but that doesn't mean the water will always be safe to swim in. Beachgoers are reminded to observe the posted warning flags before venturing into the water.
