Lafayette drivers and residents can expect some road closures Sunday as the city hosts its first ever Zydeco Marathon.

Residents are being asked to avoid the Saints streets, Jefferson Street, Bendel Road, West Congress between the Cajundome and downtown Lafayette, and Girard Park Drive.

Lafayette General Medical Center will be accessible from South College on the Johnston Street side. The southbound lane of Coolidge will be open for direct access to the front entrance.

The marathon will provide residents to show off the hospitality for which Acadiana has become famous. With more than 2,000 runners expect to participate, marathon organizers are encouraging residents along the course route to turn their front yards in cheer sections with friends and family.

A "Finish Line" festival will be held at the university's intramural fields next to Blackham Coliseum, where local zydeco bands, such as Geno Delafose and French Rockin Boogie, will perform. Local restaurants will also be on hand.
