The question as to who would be the New Orleans Saints kicker in week 1 has been answered.

Veteran Shayne Graham, who was cut a few days ago, has been re-signed, according to multiple reports.

To make room on the roster, the Saints waived second-year quarterback Ryan Griffin.

Griffin's release is a bit of a surprise, considering he showed promise early in the preseason and throughout camp. The former Tulane quarterback could potentially be signed to the Saints practice squad (view Saints 10 man practice squad here) if he clears waivers.

The Saints cut Graham, a 15 year veteran, on Saturday. It's probable the Saints informed Graham he would be brought back as the kicker. The strategy would be to waive Griffin a few days after initial cuts, when other teams fill their quarterback position. This improves the Saints chances of signing Griffin to the practice squad.

Graham was challenged in training camp by Derek Dimke, a young kicker out of Illinois. Aside from his 4-4 field goal performance this preseason, Graham's performance last season likely helped him earn the job.

In the Saints Wild Card playoff win at Philadelphia last January, Graham was 4-4, including a 32-yard game winner.
