New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been nominated for the NFL's Salute to Service Award.

According to the NFL website, the "Salute to Service Award presented by USAA was created to acknowledge the exceptional efforts by members of the NFL community to honor and support U.S. service members, veterans and their families".

Brees has always been vocal about his support for U.S. military. He's made trips to Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, Turkey, Djibouti, Dubai, Okinawa and Guantanamo Bay as part of the USO.

Both of Brees' grandfathers served in World War II.

Last summer, Brees and his wife Brittany participated in the K9 for Warriors Program, helping set up Air Force veteran April Sandlin, who suffers from PTSD, with a service K9.

He's a member of the Board of Trustees at the famous National World War II museum located in New Orleans.

All 32 teams nominate a player. Three finalists will be named in January, with the winner being announced on February 4th at the "NFL Honors Awards".
