Carrying an $11 million cap number in 2015, New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans signed a 1 year contract extension today, stretching his contract to run through 2017.

While details have not be released yet, expect Evans' new deal to carry a lower cap number this season, creating needed space for the Saints to sign other players, as well as their upcoming draft picks.

As of this morning, New Orleans was $845,000 below the salary cap.

Evans was scheduled to earn around $11 million in salary and bonuses this year, a number that could also drop with the new deal.

Evans, 31, was named to his 6th Pro Bowl last season, but his play has taken a step back recently due to nagging injuries.
