The New Orleans Saints signed veteran wide receiver Hakeem Nicks to a one-year deal today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Nicks worked out for the Saints last offseason, and again two months ago.

Veteran WR Vincent Brown was placed on IR yesterday, leaving an open roster spot on the Saints as they begin training camp practice tomorrow.

Nicks, 28, spent the first 5 seasons of his career with the New York Giants, winning a Super Bowl in 2011.

In 2014, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Last year, he signed with the Titans but was cut before the season opener, then returned to the Giants last November.

He's currently the oldest wide receiver on the Saints roster, giving him a decent chance to make the team. If the veteran has anything left to offer on the field, his experience in the locker room could be the tie-breaker if the final wide receiver roster spot came down to him and a young project.

However, in recent year, Nicks has struggled with injuries.

For his career, he's racked up 5,081 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns in his seven NFL seasons.
