38-year-old Gary R. Squires of Scott has been arrested for allegedly beating up his girlfriend, who's already in a wheelchair.

Scott Police Chief Chad Leger says early Tuesday morning, Gary R. Squires and his girlfriend began arguing at a home on 120 Des Jacques Lot 12, and then it turned violent. After admittedly hitting her numerous times (15-20 strikes), it was discovered that she suffered a broken rib and a fractured eye socket, along with various contusions to her face.

Chief Leger says Squires ran away after the attack and was eventually arrested at his job at Pizza Palace.

Squires says they were both intoxicated and that he tried to defend himself from her attack. Police say he suffered an injury to his right hand. Squires has been charged with Second Degree Battery.
