The New Orleans Saints organization announced today that head coach Sean Payton has officially signed his five-year extension with the club.

Tom Benson, the owner of the Saints, said, “He has been a great leader for our organization. He and Mickey (Loomis) have built a foundation of success as they have built the roster. We have already begun preparations for the 2013 season and I look forward to getting Sean back in the building as soon as possible, as I know our fans do as well.”

The Saints organization seemed to go into overdrive with it's negotiations, with Payton, after rumors began to run rampant that the Dallas Cowboys were interested in Payton's service. In any case, Sean Payton is staying in New Orleans for the next five-years and that has many in the "Who Dat Nation" excited for next year's season.

Coach Payton spent this NFL season away from the game and the Saints organization after being suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell over his alleged involvement in the bounty scandal. It is uncertain when Payton will be allowed to return to the helm of the team. We should learn more about his return in the weeks ahead.
