During the last legislative session in Louisiana, there were 250 statutory changes to our laws that take effect today.

Starting today, you can get a ticket while driving and tweeting at the same time.  It is now also illegal to post to Facebook or check your status while you are behind the wheel.

Another law now prevents posting the names of people who apply for a concealed handgun permits.  You can also now apply for and get a concealed handgun permit that is good for lifetime.

Another new law that take effects today mandates that public schools must hold annual safety drills to rehearse crisis management plans.  This legislation was approved in the wake of last year's school shooting in Connecticut.
