Considering his increasingly impressive promo game, Zayn Malik will likely drop new music any day now. He’s covered a number of magazines, has spoken at length about his forthcoming #RealMusic release and somehow managed to keep his name in the press without so much as a lead single.

There’s cause for concern here, of course — how much hype is too much? Are we all just being taken for what will be an ultimately disappointing ride aboard the musical Zayn train? Well, worry not, because according to objective party Simon Cowell, Zayn's solo material is pretty good.

“I’m not interested in a single word he says, but I am interested in what he sings,” an ever blunt Simon told Yahoo Celebrity when asked whether he was “worried” about what Zayn might say about One Direction during an upcoming appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement, but Simon's apparently heard some of the new tracks. He said, “I’ve heard it, it’s good, he’s going to do well.”

A diplomatic response, for sure, considering Simon's recent comments directed toward the former One Direction member. During his cover story with Fader, Zayn had some less than positive things to say about One Direction’s management and even went so far as to call the band’s sound “generic as f—k.”

Simon responded to the remarks, saying, "I think once he has had a chance to reflect on everything he will probably reconsider what he’s said because it was a very, very democratic process in the band. It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them. And to the other band members. I mean they all wrote a lot of the stuff…Life could have been a lot worse, right?”
