St. Martinville has a warning for all of the floats in their annual Mardi Gras Parade---Keep Your Music Kid-Friendly

The Police Chief in St. Martinville says that they will not tolerate explicit lyrics in songs on floats, and that if anyone violates the policy, they will be told to turn the music off. Chief Hebert says that they want everyone to fun for the Mardi Gras parade, but they also want this event to remain family oriented.

I applaud the city of St. Martinville for enforcing such a policy. Sure, some kids may already know the explicit lyrics to some songs, but that does not warrant anyone in public to blast such profanity.

There is a reason why radio stations cannot and will not play songs with explicit lyrics, we just don't know who is listening. Those who play music out in public should be held to the same standards as anyone broadcasting music across the airwaves.

I am surprised that more cities don't enforce such for their parades, but I would highly encourage other municipalities to adopt this policy. I further believe that those that habitually violate the "clean music" policy in parades should either be fined or arrested. No kid, or anyone for that matter, needs to be subjected to vulgarity while attending parades.
