State Police To Conduct Seat Belt & Sobriety Checkpoint In Calcasieu Parish Tonight

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

That's the message Louisiana State Police Troopers are sending across the Bayou State over the holidays. The enforcement campaign lasts until January 1, 2016, as Troopers annually increase DWI enforcement activities during this time.

"Our mission will be to ticket vehicle occupants who are not properly restrained or who choose not to properly restrain children in the vehicle as well as to remove impaired drivers from the highway before they cause injury or death to themselves or others," says spokesman Trooper Sgt. James Anderson.

Tonight, troopers will be at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish from about 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. as they will enforce seat belt and sobriety laws.

"Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night," points out Sgt. Anderson. "Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to minimize the likelihood of serious injury or death in the event of a crash."
