Breakout success though Stranger Things may have been, many had to wonder if the series were perhaps best-served by that eight-episode run. Everything we’ve seen from Season 2 seems promising, though producers now lay out a four-to-five season plan for Hawkins, along with a new round of photos.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, creators Ross and Matt Duffer acknowledged that while plans may change, the priority remains not to stretch out Stranger Things longer than the story can support. For the moment, that plan leaves them around four or five seasons, the groundwork of which will be laid in Season 2:

Matt: I want it to have a really finite ending. I don’t want it to be one of those shows that runs out of gas and they lose it because they’re losing interest. You wanna end when you’re on top.

Ross: Hopefully you’ll come to the end of season 2 and feel fully satisfied and want more but you’ll feel like it has come to a conclusion. But also we’ve laid the ground work for further seasons.

One imagines the Stranger Things kids will look pretty grown up by five seasons in, so let’s remember them as they are in a new round of photos from the Halloween release:

Elsewhere of Stranger Things Season 2, we know shooting will take place in Atlanta through April for a Halloween premiere. The story will pick up in the fall of 1984, while creators Matt and Ross Duffer have teased a James Cameron sequel influence in crafting the second chapter.

We’ll also learn more about the Demogorgon and Upside Down, as teased in our exclusive concept art piece, while Sadie Sink (visible above) and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery have been added to the cast in regular roles, along with Brett Gelman, Goonies alum Sean Astin, Aliens baddie Paul Reiser, and actress Linnea Berthelsen.
