You have your Black Friday ads. You know when the stores open. You even know the most dangerous toys being sold this year. You, sir or madam, are ready to shop.

Or are you? Here are a few more suggestions to make your Black Friday buying excursions go as smoothly as possible

    Leave the Kids at Home

Even if you aren’t shopping for them and thus aren’t worried about ruining their holiday surprises, maneuvering through crowded aisles is much more difficult with a stroller or small child in tow — and it’s not much fun for tired, cranky kids either. Hire a babysitter or ask a friend who isn’t retail-inclined to watch the little ones for you.

    Wear Comfortable Shoes

This may sound like it goes without saying, but Black Friday is not the time to break in new shoes or show off your new stilettos. Flats or sneakers will let you clock more hours on your feet to make sure you don’t miss a single deal.

    Dress in Layers

If you’ll be waiting outside in the pre-dawn hours, it could be cold. By the same token, remember some stores crank up the heat, so once you get inside, that coat may be stifling. Be sure you can peel off layers to stay comfortable as you shop.

    Bring Water and Snacks

All that walking around and doing battle with other shoppers is sure to leave your throat parched and your energy levels low. Tote a bottle of water and some protein-rich snacks (almonds are a good choice) to refuel as necessary.

    Take Advantage of Technology

Free smartphone apps like Fast Mall will give you the lay of the land in a snap, so you’ll be able to plan the most expeditious route from one store to the next. And Point Inside will show you thousands of deals available within malls and from millions of other national and local retailers.

    Read the Fine Print

Some sales have pre-determined time limits, so plan ahead. Make a game plan to keep yourself organized and ensure you get the best deals possible.

    Be Kind

Don’t be one of those people we’ve seen in YouTube videos who rip out the hair of fellow shoppers. Unless there’s a sale on Johnny Depp, almost nothing is worth that. Be courteous. And if someone is rude to you, don’t let it ruin your day.
