American Idol moving to ABC is bound to leave FOX a little green, and they might even spend a little in retaliation. FOX is apparently working on a brand-new singing competition to rival Idol and The Voice with a unique format.
You’re not living in a parallel universe, but you might as well get used to the phrase “American Idol, live from ABC!” The reality singing hit is officially coming back for another round, moving from its FOX home in a surprising upset for the major networks.
Whether or not American Idol jumped the gun to plot a reboot so soon after its “Farewell Season,” the point may be moot. Reports indicate that neither NBC nor FOX were able to negotiate a deal with the studios behind Idol, likely shelving any revival for the foreseeable future.
It hasn’t been terribly long since FOX said goodbye to American Idol, what with the whole “reality competition” craze having appreciably cooled since the early 2000s regardless. Still, leave it to NBC to potentially drag Ryan Seacrest back to the stage for a revival season, throwing The Voice into question in the process.
