If you plan on visiting Mamou, Louisiana anytime this Mardi Gras season, you have to go and visit "Tante Sue from Mamou" at Fred's Lounge.

Tante Sue is a staple at the world famous Fred's Lounge in Mamou and she has been for many years. While she may be known for singing at Fred's, Tante Sue is also known for walking around the small bar with a fifth of Hot Damn!!!

Yes, she often walks around the bar and greets patrons with a quick swig of Hot Damn. Regardless of the time of day.  While Fred's may be known for it's Cajun Music format, it does have a few rules which it enforces.

The main rule in Fred's Lounge is "No Standing On The Tables." They also remind you to never bring in your own drinks. As Tante Sue explains in this video, she can only stay open by selling beverages from the bar.

Being from Mamou people often ask how often I've been to Fred's. I can honestly say that I have only been in the bar two or three times. And if you go during Mardi Gras season prepare for it to be JAM PACKED!!

This little bar in Big Mamou is a must-see. Not only is the establishment a classic, so too are the people who operate the bar.
