The public is invited to attend a celebration of life event to honor Mickey Shunick this Saturday, September 29th, inside Parc International in downtown Lafayette. Gates to the park will open at 11:30 am, with the event beginning at noon.

The event will honor the life of the former UL student who was abducted and murdered by Brandon Scott Lavergne on May 19th. Her body was later recovered in a remote location in Evangeline Parish. The event will be free to attend and there will be plenty of entertainment on-stage throughout the day.The event will have several speakers on hand to honor Mickey, including City-Parish President Joey Durel. The family of Mickey is expected to speak at the event as they will recognize everyone who stayed by their mission...To Bring Mickey Home!

Food and beverages will be served at the celebration—PLEASE leave the ice chests at home. Lawn chairs are encouraged for the event as seating is limited inside the park. In addition to all of the speakers and entertainment on stage, there will also be a public art wall on display inside the park.

I cannot recall any other event since I have been in Lafayette that has brought our community together like Mickey has. Its sad that it took something like this to happen for ALL of us to come together as one, and now it is time for our community to come back together to honor the brave little soul of Mickey Shunick. We hope to see all of you in Parc Internationale this Saturday.
