It's a yearly favorite for me on YouTube. The Mobile, Alabama leprechaun sighting as reported by NBC15 back in 2006. Now 10 years later, the story (which was one of YouTube's earliest viral videos) has been seen online more than 25 million times.

Anchor Scott Walker, who is now a news anchor in New Orleans, managed to keep a straight face tossing to the reporter package from the Crichton neighborhood in Mobile. This year, he gave the ultimate backstory for the 10th year in a row.

We were going out there to see why such large crowds were causing problems in the neighborhood. When our crew arrived, things sort of snowballed. People were looking up at a tree and saying there was a Leprechaun in it. We started shooting video and that’s when the people of Crichton took over and turned this story into an internet sensation.

Scott Walker doesn't mind the yearly excitement over the story, but he admits it has become part of his family's life.

My wife and I, along with our two kids, get new Mobile Leprechaun t-shirts every couple of years. CafePress has a great selection.

It’s fun to be part of something that’s talked about so much for so long, although some of my co-workers are probably really tired of it. But I never get tired of hearing about it. It’s funny and ridiculous and makes people laugh. I always say that I could be immortalized on YouTube for something far worse. I’ll take this.

Internet entrepreneurs have come out with shirts mugs and other items with the "sketch on it. As for the Mobile leprechaun himself, people in the Crichton neighborhood have never seen him again.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
