As the holiday season gets into full-swing, local retailers are not only prepping themselves for huge crowds in their stores, but they are also making prepartations to combat shoplifters. According to the National Association of Shoplifting Prevention, retailers will lose close to $119 Billion due to shoplifters. One in every 11 shoppers will walk out of a store with something they did not pay for. So what are those with the "sticky fingers" looking for, here is what seems be most targeted.

Shoplifters were most likely to walk out with expensive cuts of meat, high-priced booze and electronic items, such as power tools, iPhones and electric toothbrushes, according to the National Association of Shoplifting Prevention. Thieves have also taken a liking to the sweet smell of high-priced perfumes such as Chanel No. 5 — and the not-so-pricey scent of men’s Axe deodorant.

Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Ralph Lauren are hot apparel items for sticky-fingered consumers. For shoplifters targeting footwear, Nikes are the footwear brand of choice. We guess even thieves want to "Be Like Mike."
Let’s Rock Elmo and other toys listed on Toys ‘R Us’ “Hot Toys” list are prime targets for shoplifters. It should be noted here that most caught shoplifting have admitted that they had no intention on shoplifting upon entering the store. However, their motive seems to quickly change when they see things they can't afford at the time, yet are accustomed to having.
We hope, and encourage you all, if you see someone shoplifting this holiday season you report them immediately to security. Too many people are loosing jobs this holiday season because sales are down and cost are rising.
