Tracy Chapman Sues Nicki Minaj for Sampling Song on ''Sorry''

While Nicki Minaj is out mocking those who claim she attempted to stop their bag, it appears singer Tracy Chapman is trying to halt hers.

The news comes a couple months after the release of Nicki and Nas' track, "Sorry." The song samples Tracy Chapman's popular 1988 single "Baby Can I Hold You," but according to Chapman, she never gave the "Barbie Dreams" rapper clearance to use it. According to a report from TMZ today (Oct. 23), she is now suing the Queens rhymer for financial compensation.

Chapman also wants to prohibit Minaj from releasing the track again after it was pulled from her Queen album in August. Nicki claims the album was delayed for a second time because Tracy denied her use of the track, though Chapman claims she's turned down the request multiple times since June 2018.

The lawsuit also states that Funkmaster Flex and The Breakfast Club have both played the track on their respective radio stations without Chapman's permission. There's no doubt Nicki used the sample, which can be heard below, so she may want to lawyer up.

In related news, Nicki Minaj is preparing to release a documentary to accompany her fourth studio album. Earlier this month, the "Goodbye" rapper teased several clips from the film on her Instagram page and discussed the abuse she witnessed between her mother and father, and endured in her own live.

"I vowed, that's why maybe some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever, because I vowed from that age no man would ever abuse me, call me out my name, treat me like that," she explains.
