Update: La. State Police Trooper Brooks David tells KPEL News approximately 120 homes near the site are evacuated (He got that figure from Assistant Police Chief of Scott). Lafayette Haz-Mat and State Police Haz-Mat are both on the scene.

State Police say the following streets are still under evacuation: Pecan Grove Road, Benford, Hobby, Gary, Finley, Clay and Shell. There is no timetable when the evacuation will be lifted.

Update: Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says the Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat team is on the scene of the train derailment in Scott.

Cameron Street has been reopened, according to our news partners at KATC. The roadway was closed between Westgate and Ambassador Caffery for about two hours.

State Police say the following streets are still being evacuated: Pecan Grove Road, Benford, Hobby, Gary, Finley, Clay and Shell.

Trahan says four train cars slightly derailed from the tracks near Pecan Grove just down from Cameron Street and the Ambassador overpass.

Meanwhile, the Lafayette Parish School System says their buses will not be able to drop off students this afternoon who live on Pecan Grove Road. Instead, they will drop off these students at the Scott Events Center on 110 Lyons Club road. School officials say Pecan Grove Road residents may pick up their children from school early if they want to do so.

Officials say only a smaller area has been evacuated due to a minor train derailment as the situation is continually being evaluated.

Pecan Grove Road from Cameron to Willow is still evacuated.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says four train cars slightly derailed from the tracks near Pecan Grove just down from Cameron Street and the Ambassador overpass.

One car has phosphoric acid, but the initial information indicates that there is no leak.

Haz-Mat says a mobile home park along with other dwellings in the area have been evacuate to the Scott Event Center.

He says that the Acadiana Chapter of the American Red Cross will be on scene to help people.

There is no word yet on what caused this to happen, but the cause is being investigated.
