The massive sinkhole in Bayou Corne happened about 2 years ago, and resident frustrations over the massive disaster continue.

The collapsed salt dome forced 350 people to evacuate.

They'll get bought out and move on with their lives after these two years.

John Boudreaux, director of the Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says most of those residents were offered a buyout from Texas Brine, the company responsible for the sinkhole.

"Probably in the next few months that should start occurring," Boudreaux said. "They'll get bought out and move on with their lives after these two years."

The sinkhole was created from a collapsed underground salt dome cavern operated by Texas Brine Co.  The company and property owners reached a settlement earlier this year to end damage claims and buy out the affected properties. Boudreaux says even now, resident frustrations over the incident continue.

"But, at least they're coming closer to some closure and receiving some money to move on with their lives."

Scientists say the sinkhole is stabilizing, but Boudreaux says he's skeptical.

"However, it is very possible that it will," Boudreaux said. "But it has been some time since any land has sloughed in around the sinkhole."

A patch of Earth was sucked into the hole in April.
