Tyler, the Creator is a man of many words and ideas, and it’s clear to see that his views aren’t determined by popular opinion. This is most evident in the recent interview he did on ‘Larry King Now,’ as he discussed everything from his future plans to not wanting to rap anymore.

“Like, I really want to sing, but my tone of my voice is too deep to do what I want, so now I’m just listening to like Issac Hayes and Barry White, and things like that, just to see how they use their voice,” Tyler explained.

“But I hate rapping. Only because it puts you in this box… I’m talented enough to do other things. I’m pretty bored with it… In the future I want to do films. I want people to mention my name next to West Anderson or Quentin Tarantino. I don’t want my name to be mentioned next to other rappers.”

The Odd Future leader also spoke about his controversial image and the language he chooses to use in his music and in his everyday life. Tyler says he’s confused why certain words have so much power. Since he comes from a younger generation, he looks at words like the N-word differently.

“People have to understand that I grew up in a different time, so where that word is just a word, it has no effect,” he said. “But it is a double standard, because certain people will get offended if someone doesn’t have the [same] skin tone of me said it, which is really weird.”

And when it comes to the hip-hop community embracing an openly gay rapper one day, Tyler says he hopes it’ll happen. He’s confused why so many people care who a person loves or becomes involved with. Plus, he also doesn’t understand why certain corporations or gate-keepers are scared to finance one of his projects — just because it may be left-of-center.

“Those dudes are so caught up in money, and they’re scared of anything out of the norm, so they’ll be quick to say, ‘F— that,'” states the California native. “It sucks because we’ll never progress if we don’t get the courage to say f— it and try something new.”

And he didn’t stop there. Tyler also talked about not knowing his father, and he answered a bunch of questions from viewers. You can see more of the conversation below.
